Baby Fred is a duo consisting of Briyan Frederick Baker of Gajoob and Blind Mime Ensemble, and Joe Maki of Driveway Static. Founded in March of 1984 in Logan Utah. Briyan and Joe met at the Albertson’s grocery store they worked at while attending Utah State University. On Sunday, March 18th, 1984, Joe was hosting a breakfast for a crowd of hungover St. Patrick’s Day partiers. While Joe was noodling on his piano, Briyan asked if he ever wrote his own songs. Joe had fiddled a bit with it but never really found a groove. Briyan suggested they try writing together, and started bringing his 4-track cassette recorder over on weekends and the odd day off. Songs were originally recorded on the Tascam Porta One Ministudio 4-track cassette recorder, then migrated to digital recording.
